Kerala Banana Halwa

This is one dish which i came up with when i saw a ripe banana lying in my fruit bowl. Normally i would use them in some baking recipes. But this time i thought of making a quick easy halwa using it.

Ingredients for Kerala Banana Halwa

  • Ripe Nendran Banana / Ethan Pazham - 1 large (around 1 cup mashed)
  • Sugar - ¼ cup or to taste
  • Ghee - 2 tbsp
  • Almonds / Badam - 3 tbsp chopped ( use any nuts)
  • Cardamom powder / Yelakai Podi - ¼ tsp

This halwa is made simply with mashed banana, sugar and few spices and ofcourse ghee. I used nendran pazham / ethan pazham for this recipe, i found that it taste best, but you could try with any banana.

Hope you will give this a try and let me know how it turns out for you..

How to Make Kerala Banana Halwa

  1. Peel and mash the ripe banana using a fork. Grease a plate with ghee and set aside.

  3. In the same ghee add in the mashed banana and saute for a min.
  4. Add in sugar and mix well.
  5. Keep cooking till the mix gets thick. Now add in a tsp of ghee at a time and keep cooking.
  6. At a point the halwa will get glossy.
  7. Add in cardamom powder and fried nuts. Mix well.
  8. Pour this into a greased plate and smoothen the top. Let this cool down.
